COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 15, 2010) — Averitt Express announced the winners of its recent “F-150 4x4 Fuel Duel” challenge at a surprise ceremony held at its Greensboro, N.C., service center.

Driver Marty Robbins was randomly selected as the winner of the grand prize, a 2010 Ford F-150 4x4 pickup truck, from a pool of hundreds of eligible associates. In addition, 20 other Averitt associates each won a $500 fuel card after their names were selected from a random drawing.

The unveiling was the culmination of the six-month-long “F-150 4x4 Fuel Duel” challenge. Averitt designed the program to create enthusiasm about fuel conservation amongst its associates.

“Our associates are always ready to rise to a challenge,” said Scott Wolf, vice president of corporate services. “The Fuel Duel not only provided a way for our drivers to improve their fuel conservation, but it also brought out their competitive spirit and strengthened their sense of teamwork. Plus, our entire system sees many long-term benefits from a challenge like the Fuel Duel, such as lowering our operating costs and improving our carbon footprint.”

Drivers from across Averitt’s system were assembled into 142 teams, each tasked with improving their fuel efficiency compared to the same time period as last year.

Among teams that improved their fuel efficiency, Averitt drivers conserved 132,544 gallons of fuel over last year and saved $356,545.

The Fuel Duel is the latest nationwide, environmentally focused challenge Averitt has held for its associates. In 2009, Averitt presented a Smart Fortwo car to a Louisville, Ky., driver in its “Smart Car for Smart Thinkin'” contest, which challenged all associates to reduce their use of fuel, utilities and paper.
