COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 7, 2010) — It was a clean sweep for Averitt Express, as all six Tennessee Trucking Foundation Scholarships for the 2010-2011 school year were awarded to the transportation provider’s associates or family members.

Each year, the Tennessee Trucking Foundation, the charitable arm of the Tennessee Trucking Association, awards six scholarships to children, spouses or employees of TTA member organizations. This is the first time in the program’s seven-year history that all six scholarships have been awarded to Averitt associates or members of their families.

“This is a testament to the high caliber of associates that make up our team,” said Gary Sasser, Averitt’s president and CEO. “Education is crucial in today’s global economy, and paying for it, whether you’re a young student or a non-traditional student working a full-time job, is often a challenge. We’re proud to have associates on our team who value education and are dedicated to furthering their personal and professional goals.”

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be entering their junior or senior years at accredited colleges or universities located in Tennessee. This year’s recipients are:

    • Courtney Braden, a senior at the University of Phoenix majoring in business management. She works as an operations specialist at Averitt’s Nashville facility.

    • Seth Dillehay, a junior at Tennessee Tech University majoring in business management. He works in customer service at Averitt’s National Call Center in Cookeville.

    • Justin Hayes, a junior at Middle Tennessee State University majoring in chemistry. His father, Tommy Hayes, is a driver at Averitt’s Nashville facility.

    • Jessica Long, a past recipient and a senior at East Tennessee State University majoring in nursing. Her father, Mike Long, is a leader at Averitt’s National Call Center in Cookeville.

    • Jacqueline Hayley Summs, a senior at the University of the South majoring in global studies. Her mother, Jacqueline A. Summs, is an area manager at Averitt’s corporate office in Cookeville.

    • Brandon Toney, a junior at the University of Memphis majoring in nursing. His father, Gary Toney, is a sales associate at Averitt’s Memphis facility.
